Establishing a National Popular Vote for the Election
of the President of the United States has taken on extreme
importance because of the efforts in certain States to
change the way Electoral Votes will be won in the 2008
Election. This change could definitely result in the next
President being elected without having won the National
Popular Vote.
Every time Gallup has conducted a poll on this issue,
which has occurred since 1944, it has shown that the
American people support electing the President of the
United States by direct popular vote. The last Gallup Poll
conducted on this issue, October 2004, showed that 61%
of the American people supported electing the President
of the United States by direct popular vote.
We believe that it is time the American people are
heard directly on electing the President of the United
States by direct popular vote.
We therefore are proposing a National Advisory
Referendum on electing the President of the United
States by direct popular vote to be held on Election
Day 2008.
