Four Thousand Four Hundred (4,400) Post Offices thought out the United States will possibly close by May 15, 2012. The State by State list of Post Offices on the closure list are at: http://about.usps.com/news/electronic-press-kits/expandedaccess/statelist.htm
These 4,400 Post Offices, in rural Communities though out the United States, represent far more to these Communities than the services provided by the Post Office. These Post Offices are the center and symbol of the very existence of these small Communities. The people in each Community on the closure list are fighting in every way possible to stop their Post Offices from being closed.
We strongly believe that the money that is necessary to keep these 4,400 Post Offices open should come from the waste, fraud and abuse in the Federal Budget. There are literary thousands of projects that this money could come from. Among the more recent projects are:
1. The National Institute of Health spent approximately $442,340 in 2010 to study the behavior of male prostitutes in the Country of Vietnam.
2. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs spent $175 million during 2010 to maintain hundreds of buildings that it does not use. These buildings include a pink, octagonal monkey house in the city of Dayton, Ohio.
3. In California, one park received $440,000 in federal funds to perform "green energy upgrades" on a building that has not been used for a decade.
4. $550,000 for a documentary about how rock music contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
5. $615,000 was given to the University of Santa Cruz to digitize photos, T-shirts and concert tickets belonging to the Grateful Dead.
Thousands of more of these wasteful projects are listed at Citizens Against Government Waste, The Heritage Foundation, and Wastebook 2010 and 2011" by United States Senator Coburn.
Listed below are the Congressional Candidates that agree to the following statement:
"We strongly believe that the 4,400 Post Offices on the Postal Regulatory Commission's closure list should ALL remain open. The money that is necessary to keep these Post Offices open should come from the waste, fraud and abuse in the Federal Budget."
