This issue regards the coming North American
Union between the United States, Mexico and Canada
and the NAFTA Superhighway.
Forty-two Present Members of Congress have
Co-sponsored a Congressional Resolution (House
Congressional Resolution 40), "Expressing the sense of
Congress that the United States should not engage in the
construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement
(NAFTA) Superhighway System or enter into a North
American Union with Mexico and Canada." (The names
of the forty-two Present Members of Congress who have
Co-sponsored this Resolution can been seen here: http://
thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HC00040:@@@P)
In nineteen State Legislatures, Resolutions have been
introduced in opposition to the North American Union and/or
the NAFTA Superhighway. (A list of these States can be
seen here: http://www.stopthenau.org/Current_Activities.htm)
President Bush, the President of Mexico and the
Prime Minister of Canada declared their participation in the
"Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" (the
basis for the North American Union) at the conclusion of their
summit meeting in Waco, Texas on March 23, 2005. (This
agreement can be seen on the White House Website at:
www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/03/20050323-2.html)
The significant progress toward the North American Union
between the three Countries can be seen on the Government
Website: www.spp.gov.
Congressman and Presidential Candidate Ron Paul
stated that the proponents of a NAFTA Superhighway (from
Mexico to Canada) want to build a "10-lane colossus the
width of several football fields, with freight and rail lines,
fiber-optic lines, and oil and natural gas pipelines running
alongside." Congressman Paul went on to state, "The
ultimate goal is not simply a superhighway, but an
integrated North American Union - complete with currency,
a cross-national bureaucracy, and virtually borderless
travel within the Union" (July 22, 2007, Concord Monitor).
The issue at stake is the Sovereignty of the United
States. In his book The Late Great USA: The Coming
Merger with Mexico and Canada, Jerome Corsi, Ph. D.,
states, "We must demand our right to see the prospect
of entering a North American Union brought before the
American people and their elected representatives for an
open referendum and a national vote."
The continued Sovereignty of the United States
also directly effects the right of the American workers to
keep their jobs.
On September 6, 2007 the United States began a
"pilot" program to allow Mexican trucks with Mexican
truck drivers greater access to U.S. Highways. "The
hotly contested program, opposed by labor, independent
truck owners and environmental groups, permits up to
500 trucks from 100 Mexican motor carriers full access
to U.S. roads" (January 5, 2008, Associated Press).
Prior to this "pilot" program, "Mexican trucks have had
to stop within a buffer border zone and transfer their
loads to U.S. trucks" (January 5, 2008, Associated
Press).
If this "pilot" program, which will last to September
6, 2008, is "successful" then an unlimited number of
Mexican trucks with Mexican truck drivers will have
unlimited access to U.S. Highways. As a safety issue the question is: Do we want 80,000 pound unguided
missiles from Mexico careering down our highways? As
an issue of American jobs the question is: Do we want
the present 1.3 Million American long haul truckers to
be from Mexico or the United States?
The continued Sovereignty of the United States should
rest in the hands of the American People. We are therefore
proposing two National Advisory Referendums for Election
Day November 2008.
